Flattach is ideally situated in relation to two beautiful ski areas. Those who like to book a snow sure vacation, Flattach is definitely in the right place. Thanks to the Mölltal Glacier it is an area where you can actually ski all year round.
Cross-country skiers also come into their own in Flattach and its surroundings. If you add up all the cross-country skiing areas, you will soon find almost 100 kilometers of prepared challenging trails.
Ski area Mölltaller Glacier
The ski area is particularly wide, and it is a wonderful place for somewhat advanced skiers / The ski area of the Mölltal Glacier is 12 minutes away. This can be done by car but also with the ski bus.
From the valley station, you take the Mölltaler Gletscher Express, a spectacular mountain train, to the top. The mountain station of the Gletscher Express is at 2,108 meters altitude. From the mountain station, you can then continue to explore the ski area and reach an altitude of 3,122 meters.
The number of slopes is very varied, from beautiful long blue runs to challenging black runs. The ski area offers enough challenge for everyone. Thanks to the high altitude of the ski area, it is very snow certain but also very cold. So, keep that in mind.
Ski resort Ankogel
From Flattach you can also go to the Ankogel ski area. A small ski area on the border between Carinthia and Salzburg. Thanks to two comfortable cabins you get to the top quickly. The Ankogel ski area is 22 minutes by car from Zirnberg Apartments..
Ski resort Ankogel has 2 gondola lifts and 3 drag elevators and a total of 12 kilometers of slopes whereby most of the slopes can be classified in the difficult category. The ski area is popular among freeriders because of the good off-piste possibilities.
Ski resort Lienz
About 40 car minutes to the West is the Lienzer Dolomites ski area. This ski area in the Tyrol actually consists of two areas.
Zettersfeld an excellent ski area for beginners. Where you first take a gondola from Lienz up above the tree line and where you can ski beautifully on the sunny side of the mountain.
Need some more challenge? Then drive a little further to the Hochstein. The ski area is located between the trees and is therefore snowier than the previously mentioned Zettersfeld. With a gondola you will be taken to the top and then you can use the chair elevators or the over two kilometers long dragline to the top at over 2,000 meters. We find the ski resort of Hochstein more for the advanced skiers. It is never busy here, sometimes it seems like you are skiing on your own private slope.
Cross country skiing
Are you a fan of Nordic skiing, such as cross-country skiing? No problem in Flattach starts an eight kilometer long track and this runs through to the Mölltal towards the Gössntitz Sea. Outside Flattach in Mallnitz, 14 kilometers away, more than 25 kilometers of cross-country trails are tracked every winter. In the nearby Obervillach you can go on 20 kilometers of trails and who wants to cross-country ski until late in the season can go to the Mölltaller Gletsjer where 2.5 kilometers of trails have been constructed. However, you do need a lift pass or ticket for this.
